Tejasvi Kumaran is a student of Class 12 in Shibumi School, Bengaluru. She recently came across two PARI stories that showed the love and affection people had for animals. “In both cases, it was the fact that whatever little these people had, they shared, that moved me,” she says. The illustrations published here are inspired by Ritayan Mukherjee’s story 'The endless search for grazing grounds’. She enjoyed learning how “the animals were not thought of as a source of income, rather as a part of the family itself. It was so amazing to see them enter ‘beauty contests’ for the camels and make elaborate patterns on them, accessorizing almost, because why can't camels be pretty too?”
